Umpqua Valley Plein Air Awards of Distinction
January 1 - January 31
Plein Air Awards of Distinction – EAC will be featuring the top honors awarded to artists that participated in the Umpqua Valley Arts Association 7th Annual Plein Air Painting Event last September, 2017.
Plein Air Painting pertains to a manner or style of painting developed chiefly in France in the mid-19th century, characterized by the representation of the luminous effects of natural light and atmosphere as contrasted with the artificial light and absence of the sense of air or atmosphere associated with paintings produced in the studio.
Famous painters such as Monet, Pissaro, Renoir, Cassatt and Homer favored the natural light of a setting rather than the confines of painting in a studio.
This exhibit features the art of 40 Oregon Plein air painters that include Sarah Sedwick, Paul Bourgault, Vinita Pappas, Emmanuel Skarlatos and Zhong Yong-Hong.
This show runs from January 9th through February 2nd with an artists reception on Friday, January 12th from 5-8 during the 2nd Friday Art Walk.
