Show dates are September 3rd-27th, 2024.
The Emerald Art Center presents an exhibition featuring the work of renowned Outsider artist, Anne Grgich.
Born and raised in the Northwest, Anne Grgich began her artistic journey as a child in Portland, OR.
Her passion for art was intensified after a traumatic car accident in 1981, which led her to seek relief through drawing and writing in books. Despite the challenges of being a single parent, she persevered
and gained recognition as a self-taught artist.
In 1995, she started showing at Jamison/Thomas Gallery in Portland and quickly became known as an Outsider artist. Her work has been featured in Raw Vision Magazine, represented by numerous galleries, and even appeared on clothing by the fashion house Comme des Garçons in 2018. She has curated traveling exhibitions and shown internationally in Australia, France, and Canada.
Anne’s work is characterized by multilayered renderings of human faces that stare into the viewer’s soul. Her collages, made from scraps of old books and magazines, add layers of mystery and intricacy, reminiscent of human consciousness. She has also repurposed found objects in her work, including jigsaw puzzle pieces, thrift store world globes, surfboards, and dolls.
Anne continues to work as an artist, collaborator, and curator in the United States and abroad, chasing her ever-expanding muse from Tacoma, WA. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience the depth and breadth of her artistic journey.
Anne will conduct a workshop on September 26-27, 2024, 12-4PM.
Also showing are Featured EAC Members: Sandy Mart and Robin Levin.
This collection of watercolor paintings by Sandy Mart illustrates the people that she has observed in her travels. Each one evoked a different emotion and she has endeavored to capture these emotions in her show, “Moments in Time”. They are from many countries and walks of life, but we are reminded that we all share a love for our families, friends and pets!
Robin Levin's paintings are her prayers. Color and movement create abstract organic forms that intermingle and reach upwards to a hopeful future.
