Rodney Thompson “Drawing the Portrait in Charcoal” June 2-4, 2017

The workshop will cover basic beginning steps through advance finishing techniques needed to create a portrait in a contemporary realist style.  Students will learn how to use fundamental elements such as light, value, composition, edge and drawing to create realistic portraits.  The class will cover many different charcoal materials that can be used to achieve varying textures and depth as well as the methods to handle them.  Rodney will help guide students through a demonstration, then work with each individual as they work from a live model, producing a finished portrait.
